José Carlos González Gómez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. He obtained his B.Sc. in chemistry at Havana University in 1994. In 1999 he started his PhD studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), under the guidance of Eugenio Uriarte, and working on the synthesis of bioactive psoralen derivatives. In 2005, he joined Prof. Erick M. Carreira at ETH Zurich and worked on the development of metal-catalyzed amination reactions of conjugated dienes as well as in the stereoselective synthesis of cholesterol absorption inhibitors. In 2007, he joined to the group of Prof. Miguel Yus at the University of Alicante, as a Juan de la Cierva researcher and in October 2008 he became Assistant Professor at the same university. His research interest is focused on the development and application of stereoselective reactions for the synthesis of bioactive compounds.
