The Institute of Organic Synthesis (ISO) was established as a University Institute for Research in October 2003, with the aim to train researchers in the field of Organic Chemistry as well as to promote the excellence in research. The ISO mainly seeks to apply the results of basic research to technological development within a variety of productive sectors based on organic synthesis.
The ISO is involved in teaching activities related to doctoral courses: Doctorate of Organic Synthesis. It also aims to provide technical advice in its areas of competence. The ISO is devoted to promote the liaison with other public and private institutions related to research, striving to attain stable ways of cooperation.
The staff of the Institute is composed of seventeen researchers, with all of them being doctors (professors and researchers) of the University of Alicante, and twenty-one researchers in training period, which are grouped into thirteen research units. The ISO is very proud to have four Honorary Researchers: Professor Elias Corey (Harvard University, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 1990), Professor Ryoji Noyori (Nagoya University, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2001), Professor Avelino Corma (Institute of Chemical Technology of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, CSIC), and Professor José Elguero (Instituto de Química Médica, CSIC).
